Professor Stephen Beatty is a Director of the Macular Pigment Research Group, based at the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and under the aegis of Nutrition Research Centre Ireland. Stephen graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1990, and trained as an ophthalmic surgeon in Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Geneva, and practiced as a consultant ophthalmologist from 2001 to 2016. Since then, Stephen is involved in creative writing, consultancy work and health research, and has a credible track record in the latter (reflected in > 170 peer-reviewed publications attracting > 2,500 citations and culminating in a H index of circa 22). Stephen was appointed Professor at WIT in 2010.
