Sjogren Ireland Webinar
15 July 2023
Following on from the success of our Sjögren’s webinars in 2021 & 2022, Sjögren’s Ireland are delighted to host our next webinar in partnership with Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland on Saturday 15th July at 11am, as part of Sjögren’s Awareness Day 2023.
This year our theme is "Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicines". Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with guest speakers and the wider Sjögren’s community. Join us as we have a great lineup of guest speakers, including:
- Niamh Dillon (Pharmacist & Research Fellow in RCSI) will discuss conventional over-the-counter therapies to help manage Sjögren's symptoms, and share useful information on community drug schemes, access to medicines, and drug shortages. Niamh will also give tips on how to manage multiple medications (including ‘polypharmacy’), monitor treatments and adverse effects, and how to get the most out of your pharmacy visit.
- Dr James Barlow (Pharmacist & Senior Lecturer in RCSI) will give an overview of Complementary & Alternative Medicines (CAM), how to assess the quality, safety and efficacy of these treatments, pharmaceutical care issues that can arise during their use, and some CAM interventions which have been researched with Sjögren's patients.
- Dr Michelle Flood (Pharmacist & PPI Researcher in RCSI) will discuss how Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) connects researchers in RCSI with patient advocates.
- Dr Joan Ní Gabhann-Dromgoole (Immunology Researcher in RCSI) will discuss updates & information on Sjögren’s Research Ireland.
- Deirdre Collins & Gráinne Tynan will give updates from the Sjögren’s Ireland advocacy group.
